Berlengas, a small island located near Peniche, is one of the most important ecosystems of Portugal.
Berlengas, classified since 1981 as a Natural Reserve of Berlengas, is since June 2011 a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, which seeks a balance between local activities and preservation of biodiversity.
The most numerous bird that exists in Berlengas is a seagull - Larus cachinnans.
